Warming Up Clients to Change – Virtual Training
When clients present for treatment, they’re often so anxious that they struggle to engage, struggle to believe they can change, and/or struggle to believe that their lives can ever get better. As clinicians, it is our job to help them lower their anxiety and warm up to change, which can more efficiently and effectively done by utilizing sociometry and psychodrama techniques.
Sociometry – a technique created by Dr. JL Moreno, the founder of Psychodrama – has participants answer questions through action, which allows us to identify and make visible the positive, negative and neutral connections that typically go unspoken. Clients can then be helped to shift those connections to reduce conflict and bring greater communication, thus establishing an environment of mutual respect and support so that everyone can flourish.
In this didactic and experiential workshop, you will learn action-based techniques for engaging and working with clients that you can immediately take back to your own clinical setting.
Attendees will:
– Learn about the inverse relationship between anxiety and spontaneity
– Learn sociometric exercises that can help clients warm up to change
– Learn the technique of doubling and the benefits of using it with clients
