Unlike the more linear genogram, J. L. Moreno’s social atom is an eﬀective tool for use in treatment planning with clients. It allows the clinician to quickly assess the client’s willingness to change and the support necessary for maintaining progress. By using art materials, and by giving clients latitude in the symbols used, clinicians increase their freedom in accessing creativity, resulting in clients disclosing a more accurate picture of their emotional state, and the quality of their relationships.

In this didactic and experiential training, participants will have the opportunity to complete a social atom***, and share it, and by doing so, participants will learn the why and how of using the social atom with clients to assess where they are on their healing journey at present, and co-create a treatment plan for the future that works best for the client.

***Please have art materials (crayons or markers or colored pencils, eg) and paper (at least 8 1/2″ x 11″) to complete the social atom during the training.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS

Course meets the qualifications for a total of 1.5 hours of virtual continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs. CAMFT approved CE Provider #1000127. Provider approved by CCAPP-EI, Provider Number 2N-10-135-0226 for 1.5 virtual CEHs. Approved for 1.5 virtual CEHs for ISEP and Psychodrama.

POLICY ON SUBSTANCE USE
If you are in substance abuse recovery, you must have at least 1 year of continuous sobriety. It is also required that all non-recovering participants abstain from alcohol and non-prescribed substances for the duration of this training, as well as the 48 hours prior to workshop commencement. This will aid in being present for the personal work and learning.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:

Participants will be able to identify at least 1 benefit of using the social atom instead of a genogram, for treatment planning
Participants will be able to identify at least 1 benefit of using art materials when completing a social atom
Participants will be able to identify at least 1 benefit of using whatever symbols the client chooses, rather than classical symbols
