Lexigrams (words) of Areas of Life allow you to explore them in action, rather than just talking about them. After laying the Areas of Life out on the floor (including an option for “other”), you provide participants a prompt (see 2 examples below), and invite them to physically place themselves next to the word(s) that best represents their response. You can then invite them to share in clusters, and then share out loud with the group. (Note: these can also be used in individual, couples, family, classroom and organizational meetings.)

Rather than just sitting and talking, lexigrams drive momentum in the warm up, and help participants clarify their internal experience. Utilizing lexigrams can be especially helpful with those who have difficulty choosing their Area of Life by providing clear examples.

Examples of lexigram prompts for Areas of Life are: “Go stand by the Area of Life that best represents where things are going the most smoothly” or “Go stand by the Area of Life that best represents what you’d like to focus on in our work together.”
