Lexigram of Fears

Lexigrams (words) of Fears allow you to explore them in action, rather than just talking about them. After laying the Fears out on the floor (including an option for “other”), you provide participants a prompt (see 2 examples below), and invite them to physically place themselves next to the word(s) that best represents their response. You can then invite them to share in clusters, and then share out loud with the group. (Note: these can also be used in individual, couples, family, classroom and organizational meetings.)

Rather than just sitting and talking, lexigrams drive momentum in the warm up, and help participants clarify their internal experience. Utilizing lexigrams can be especially helpful with those who have difficulty identifying their Fears by providing clear examples.

Examples of lexigram prompts for Fears are: “Go stand by the Fear that was the strongest when you were a child” or “Go stand by the Fear that you have a hard time admitting, even to yourself.”
