Pictograms using images of hearts allow you to explore thoughts, feelings and/or beliefs in action, rather than just talking about them. After laying images out on the floors, you provide participants a prompt (see 2 examples below), and invite them to physically place themselves next to the image that best represents their response. You can then invite them to share in clusters, and then share out loud with the group. (Note: these can also be used in individual, couples, family, classroom and organizational meetings.)

Rather than just sitting and talking, pictograms drive momentum in the warm up, and help participants clarify their internal experience. Utilizing images can be especially helpful with those who have difficulty finding words to describe their experience.

Examples of pictogram prompts for hearts are: “Go stand by the image that best represents your relationship with your inner child” or “Go stand by the image that be represents how you’d like to feel by the end of our time together today.”
